This site keeps its own records of how it's used, so I can see what people look at and make the chatbot better. Nothing is sent to an advertising or analytics company, there are no cookies for tracking, and nothing tries to identify you personally.

On the site

  • A random visitor id. A random number stored in your browser's local storage, so repeat visits from the same browser can be grouped. Clearing your site data gives you a new one. It isn't linked to your name, email address or any other site.
  • What you look at. The pages and sections you view, how long each is on screen while you're active, how far you scroll, and what you click, including where on the page the click was.
  • Where you came from. The site that linked you here and any campaign tags in the link.
  • Your browser and rough location. Your browser's user-agent string and the country your connection comes from. Your IP address is never stored. To limit abuse of the chatbot, a scrambled form of it that changes every day is kept for two hours.

In the chatbot

  • The conversation. What you send and what the bot replies, so I can read how it's doing and fix wrong answers.
  • How you typed it. Typing rhythm, pauses, corrections, whether you pressed Enter, clicked send or used a suggestion, and snapshots of what was in the box while you paused, including text you deleted before sending. I use this to improve how the bot predicts what you're about to ask.
  • How the bot performed. Which kind of answer you got, how long it took, and any emoji reactions you left.
  • Contact details are removed from the records. Email addresses and phone numbers are stripped out of the text before it's stored. If you tell the chatbot about a role and confirm you want it passed on, those details are emailed to me.

How it's kept

  • Encrypted. Anything you wrote is encrypted before it's stored: chat messages, typing snapshots, the text of what you clicked, and full referring links. Only the timings and counts stay readable, so they can be totalled.
  • Deleted after a year. All of it is deleted automatically one year after it was recorded. The chatbot also keeps a working copy of each conversation so it can follow the context. That copy isn't encrypted separately, and it's deleted a year after your last message. The only thing kept longer is word counts across all conversations, which aren't linked to any visitor.
  • Only I read it. The records are stored with the site's host, Cloudflare, and are never sold or shared.

Your choices

  • Global Privacy Control and Do Not Track are honoured. If your browser sends either, the site records only which pages you visit and how fast the chatbot answered. It records no clicks, reading time, scrolling or typing. Messages you send to the chatbot are still stored, because that's the conversation itself.
  • Ask me to delete it. Email hello@liapool.com and I'll delete what's stored for your visitor id. You can find the id in your browser's local storage as lia_portfolio_visitor.
